There's Buff-turkey, and then there's short barrel buff-turkey. There's short barrel buff-turkey, and then there's this!
BRBNFNDR and Mets MLB pitcher Brooks Raley have teamed up to bring you: SouthPaw
This 33 bottle, 16 year 8month, super-short barrel, is an absolute stunner...(and we tasted a lot of barrels).
NOSE
Heavy caramel presence, lighter oak, vanilla bean ice cream, cinnamon apple Quaker oatmeal mix. Slight green apple. Not a "bright" green apple note but more of a baked apple with caramel and baking spices.
PALATE
The palate let's you know what you're in for as soon as this hits your tongue with INSANELY DRY OAK! This is drying oak done right! The moisture is erased from your mouth as soon as this bourbon hits your tongue, in the best way. Sometimes drying oak bourbons are met with a bitter and tannic aftertaste from the extreme oak presence...but not here! The intense age presence is undeniable, and is immediately followed by sweetness, which rounds out the experience. The palate "experience" is phenomenal as the age and concentration of flavors really shine. Incredibly rich flavors of Oak, caramel, tobacco, and a bit of leather.
FINISH
Extremely long finish, that walks right back into the drying sensation, in the most pleasant way. Caramel and vanilla bean ice cream make another appearance, and the sweetness of this pour lasts through the finish, before again being arrested by the intense drying sensation of the oak.
